Configuring PROFINET devices for redundancy

Available from 2022.0 LTS with RFC 4072R

  • Configure the System redundancy data hold time for each PROFINET device.

The System redundancy data hold time is the maximum time that the PROFINET device holds the output data while a switch-over of the redundancy roles takes place. If neither controller takes over the process control within this time, the output data is discarded and the PROFINET device enters an error state.

Note: The system redundancy data hold time must be ≥ 200 ms.

Recommendation:

  • Set the System redundancy data hold time according to the following scheme:  System redundancy data hold time = 100 ms + 4 x PROFINET device's Update time.
